01.10.11
A Nigerian man has been jailed for 6 years after trying to smuggle cocaine with a street value of £130,000 into the UK via Birmingham Airport. Martins Ndubuisi Onkonkwo, 36, was caught with more than half a kilo of cocaine when he arrived on a flight from Cameroon via Zurich on May 18.
He had swallowed the drugs, but was examined by UK Border Agency officers using a high-tech body scanner, which revealed several packages in his stomach. He was charged with being involved in the importation of a controlled drug, pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court and will be deported after serving his sentence.
