Monarch plane engine fire emergency
04.08.10
A Monarch plane carrying 213 passengers was forced to return to Birmingham Airport after a suspected engine fire shortly after take-off yesterday. Flight ZB932 to Tenerife took off at 18:45, but landed back in Birmingham at 18:55.
Passengers reported a 'huge bang' and flames coming from one of the plane's engines. The problem engine was shut down and the plane quickly returned to the airport under emergency conditions, but Monarch said its engineers had found no indications of a fire.
All passengers disembarked safely. They initially waited in the terminal building while the airline arranged alternative transport, but were later sent to an airport hotel for the night. They were due to fly out at 06:30 this morning.
