Aircraft emissions cut
05.09.10
Birmingham Airport has reduced carbon emissions from aircraft by more than 13,000 tonnes over the last year by using smoother aircraft approaches. Continuous Descent Approach (CDA), it forces aircraft to descend on minimum power, making a smooth approach without leveling off.
This has helped save around 10kg of fuel and 315kg of CO2 for every flight using the airport during the last year. It has also cut aircraft noise for local residents, as there is less whine because the engines are not powered up each time the plane needs to level off.
