Birmingham hotel to offer special crew rooms
07.07.08
The Crowne Plaza Birmingham City Centre hotel, which is currently undergoing a £16m refurbishment, is to cater for aircrews on stopovers by setting aside 30 bedrooms with improved noise insulation and black out curtains, abtn reports.
The 4 star hotel is around 15 miles from Birmingham Airport, but is already popular with aircrews. As part of its current redevelopment, it will add bedrooms dedicated to airline staff, that will be accessible to airline and hotel staff only, offering the opportunity to rest at any time of the day or night with the assurance that their sleep will not be disturbed by other hotel guests.
The rooms will also offer additional storage space to accommodate pilots’ cases and luggage, and will have high speed internet access. A special menu will be available to flight crews in the restaurant and they will also be able to use the Club lounge.
A spokesman for the hotel told abtn: ‘As Birmingham Airport expands, and with the proposed runway extension expecting to attract more long-haul flights, the need for pilots and flight attendants to rest in the city will increase. We aim to cater for this growing niche.'
