Turkish Airlines announce Istanbul flights

Birmingham Airport is to 'welcome another high calibre major global network carrier' - Turkish Airlines. The airline will launch flights to Istanbul on December 15, offering travellers the first direct scheduled services to Istanbul from the Midlands.
Turkish Airlines, a member of the Star Alliance global airline grouping, will operate 5 weekly flights to Istanbul. From its hub at the airport it offers onward flight links within Turkey, the Middle East and the Far East, through its established route network.
Osman Battal, Turkish Airlines’ UK Director, said, ‘Not only can we offer new direct flights to Istanbul, but we are also able to fly people to over 140 onward destinations from the airport, including Bangkok, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Delhi, Bombay and Singapore.'
'Although we will launch in December with 5 weekly flights, we would like to be operating daily services from Birmingham by summer 2009, carrying 30,000 of passengers a year.'
The airline will operate the flights using a 155-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with 20 seats in business class and 135 in economy. Flights on Monday and Thursday will arrive in Birmingham at 10:30 and leave for Istanbul at 11:30. Flights on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday will arrive in Birmingham at 12:15 and depart at 13:15. Fares are from £180 return, including taxes.
