Airport announces details of new duty free store
09.09.10
Work is progressing on a new duty free area at Birmingham Airport, which is part of the site’s £13m redevelopment, the Express & Star reports. The 19,300 sq ft World Duty Free store will be at the heart of the new International Departure Lounge and is to open next March.
The store is part of the multi-million-pound ‘airside’ revamp that will see the current two terminals become one next year. The new duty free area will be a focal point in the new combined terminal and will have a shopping mall-style design featuring a number of high-end brands.
Richard Gill, Birmingham Airport’s commercial head, believes it will be a boost to the airport. He told the newspaper: ‘The plans for the new tax and duty free store in the terminal are visionary and inspirational. We have developed a store design that will provide an exciting journey for the 5 million passengers who currently leave the airport each year.’
