Greek airline plans Athens flights with Middle East link

A Greek airline wants to launch direct flights from Birmingham Airport to Athens. Hellenic Imperial Airways also plans to launch flights between Athens and Jeddah, the Post reports, with the two routes combined offering midlands travellers a route to the Middle East.
Hellenic is reported to be so confident of the demand for both destinations that it wants to operate four flights per week to the Greek capital using a 456-seat Boeing 747 jumbo jet with economy, premium economy, business and first class seats. Two of the weekly flights will have onward connections to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
The new service is planned to start in early June, with prices from £199, plus taxes, to Athens and from £299, plus taxes, to Jeddah. The airline also wants to start new services to Casablanca in Morocco from Athens, offering Midlands travellers an easy connection to Morocco’s largest city.
The newspaper reports that Birmingham - Athens flights will operate every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. However, a spokeswoman for Birmingham Airport said it was in negotiations with Hellenic Imperial, but dates for the start of the service had not been confirmed.
