Passengers up 2% in September

Passengers using Birmingham Airport were up by 2% in September compared to a year earlier, with a total of 969,407 travellers passing through the hub.
642,182 scheduled passengers used the airport last month, with 327,225 charter passengers. EU routes saw growth of 8%, while non-EU routes saw passengers increased by nearly 5%. Domestic passengers were up by 3.3% and long-haul routes to Asia experienced a 3.9% rise in passengers.
John Kelly, managing director of Birmingham Airport, said: 'It's been a busy summer, with travellers taking advantage of the unrivalled choice of summer routes that we offer.'
Birmingham's flights to Palma were the scheduled route with the most growth in September (up 147.6%), followed by Aberdeen (138.1%) and Malta (72.2%). Charter routes that experienced growth included Malta (26.8%), Tunisia (24.6%) and Egypt.
