Cannabis smuggler jailed

A man has been found guilty of trying to smuggle £43,000 worth of cannabis through Birmingham Airport after a holiday to Jamaica. Customs staff found 15 kg of the drug in Harry Nazarowicz’s suitcase after he got off a plane from Montego Bay last July.
During the two-day trial at Coventry Crown Court, the jury heard that Mr Nazarowicz, 37, from Warrington, admitted smoking cannabis and taking cocaine whilst in Jamaica. He had paid £1700 in cash for the holiday and had booked it to impress a woman in the hope that they would begin a romance. Instead, things between them turned sour and they spent much of the holiday apart.
Mr Nazarowicz, a single father-of-two, waw walking through the ‘nothing to declare’ channel at Birmingham Airport with the woman when they were stopped and searched, and staff found the class B drug. During the trial, he claimed that someone at Kingston Airport had tampered with his unlocked bag after it was checked in and some of his clothes had been replaced with the drugs. He was sentenced to 2 years and 10 months in prison.
