Passengers up 2.2% in November

Birmingham Airport handled 610,216 passengers in November, an increase of 2.2% over the previous year. The airport had 511,481 (83.8%) scheduled passengers and 98,735 (16.2%) charter passengers spread across its two passenger terminals.
In November Non EU routes were up 6.6% and EU routes up 2.2%. The Irish Republic saw an increase of 11.3%, and the Channel Isles an increase of 30.9%. Long-haul routes to Asia saw an increase of 11.7% and transatlantic routes saw an increase of 10.2%.
Scheduled routes experiencing growth in November included Bratislava (+1720.6%), Barcelona (+152.6%), Murcia (+139.7%), Paphos (+121.7%) and Faro (+114.5%). Charter routes that experienced growth included: Malta (+85.7%), Mexico (+26.3%) and Madeira (+23.4%).
Joe Kelly, Managing Director of Birmingham Airport said: 'It was another busy month, with a new route to Shannon with Ryanair taking off and additional capacity added to Bratislava with SkyEurope. We are now entering the winter season and are expecting a busy Christmas and New Year period.'
