Birmingham Airport gets high speed boost

Transport secretary Lord Adonis has confirmed a new high-speed rail service will be connected to Birmingham Airport. Heathrow is not going to be directly linked to the network, but a brand new interchange will be built offering a connection to the hub for the Heathrow Express.
Executives at Birmingham Airport welcomed the decision, saying that it is going to lead to extra passengers using the hub. Paul Kehoe, the airport's chief executive officer, said: ‘We are uniquely positioned to not just claw back passengers from our own area, who make the lengthy journey to Heathrow, but to draw passengers from the overheated south-east.'
