Passengers up 2.8 percent in June

Birmingham Airport handled 936,868 passengers in June, up 2.8 percent on the same month last year. Last month the airport had 640,793 scheduled passengers and 296,075 charter travellers spread across its two passenger terminals.
Acting managing director Joe Kelly said: ‘During June we saw nine new routes, offering greater choice and variety for passengers travelling from their local airport.’
In June growth was achieved on Non EU routes of 8.5 percent and EU of 9.8 percent. The Irish Republic saw an increase of 13.1 percent. Scheduled routes that experienced growth in June included: Billund (up 217 percent), Ercan (up 116.3 percent), Geneva (up 100 percent), Inverness (up 78.7 percent), Marseille (up 65.3 percent) and Larnaca (up 55.5 percent). Charter routes that experienced growth were Egypt (up 87.6 percent), Madeira (up 39.2 percent), Morocco (up 38.5 percent), Mexico (up 8.4 percent) and Turkey (up 7.3 percent).
