Record passengers in May

Birmingham Airport had 877,232 passengers in May, including 625,770 scheduled passengers and 251,462 charter passengers. This beat its previous highest figure for the month of May and was up 5.7% on the same month last year.
May was the fourth month in a row of record-breaking figures. Joe Kelly, Managing Director at Birmingham Airport, said: ‘May was extremely busy after a number of new routes launched, offering passengers an increasing range of destinations.'
'The new services included Marseille with Ryanair, Hurghada and Skiathos with Thomas Cook, Montego Bay and Punta Cana with Thomsonfly, Hamburg with Lufthansa, Dundee with Flybe / Loganair and Warsaw with bmibaby.‘
Growth was achieved on non-EU routes of 15.9% and EU of 10.8%, with the Irish Republic up 19.3% and the Channel Isles up 15.7%. Scheduled routes that experienced the highest growth include: Bratislava (+902.7%), Dundee (+556.6%), Marseille (+366.7%), Rome (+162.7%), Inverness (+104.2%) and Bergamo (+100.0%).
Charter routes that experienced growth included Austria (+45.7%), Italy (+27.6%), Egypt (+23.7%), Turkey (+19.5%), Mexico (+13.5%), USA (+12.7%), Bulgaria (+3.1%) and Spain (+0.6%).
