Passengers at Birmingham Airport were down 6% in August, but the airport still saw more than one million pass through its two terminals. A total of 1,014,612 passengers passed through the airport, including 714,663 scheduled passengers and 299,949 charter passengers.
Joe Kelly, Birmingham Airport’s Deputy Chief Executive, said: ‘Despite traffic being down 6%, we passed the one million passenger mark in August making it the busiest month this year. The Midlands market is a reflection of the tough trading conditions, which affect the whole industry.’
During August significant growth was achieved on scheduled flights to destinations including Arrecife (+117%), Krakow (+94.3%), Larnaca (+62.5%), Inverness (+52.1%), Reus (+43.6%), Alicante (+42.2%), Toulouse (+38%) and Newquay (+31.2%). Charter passenger growth was achieved on routes to Egypt (+49%), Turkey (+25.9%) and Madeira (+25.7%).
