Drug smuggler jailed for 11 years

A drugs smuggler who tried to bring almost £250,000 of cocaine in to the UK via Birmingham Airport was jailed for 11 years. Polish national Krzysztof Zoledziejewski was caught with more than 5 kilos of the drug packed into his suitcase and laptop bag. Customs officers told the court that the drugs were valued at over £235,000, but this would have doubled or even trebled once ‘cut’ by dealers.
The 25-year-old, who used to work on an assembly line for a car manufacturer in Poland, was stopped when he arrived on a flight from Cancun, Mexico last October. Mr Zoledziejewski of Wielkopolski, was charged with drug smuggling offences under the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979. He was jailed for 11 years at Birmingham Crown Court this week after pleading guilty.
In sentencing the judge said: ‘I am not persuaded you are remorseful. It took a strength of character to do what you did and your only remorse is that you were caught. You were a guest in our country and you abused our trust, we don’t take kindly to that.’
