18.04.08
Birmingham Airport had the highest percentage of on time scheduled flights in the last quarter of 2007 of any major UK airport. Figures from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) showed that 80% of scheduled flights operating out of Birmingham left on time, 3% higher than last year and 11% higher than the national average.
The average length of delay on scheduled flights fell by 2 minutes compared to the same period last year, and delays were 4 minutes shorter at Birmingham compared to the national average.
The airport also performed well for its charter operations, with 74% of all flights operating on time, beaten only to the top spot by Newcastle Airport with 76%, and better than the national average of 66%. The airport suffered increasing delays in charter flights, seeing the average delay extend by 1 minute, but still 5 minutes shorter than the national average.
