Snow closes airport

Passengers flying from Birmingham Airport suffered delays last night after the runway was closed due to heavy snow. Nineteen flights were delayed and one was cancelled as the Midlands saw 10cm (4in) of snow and severe weather swept much of England.
The airport hopes to open first thing today, but there could still be delays and cancellations, and it has urged passengers to check with their airline. Drivers were also advised to take extra care on the roads as the snow froze overnight in the West Midlands, South West and North West.
