Spanair services won't take off
19.05.10
Spanair is suspending some of its services, including new routes from Birmingham Airport to Barcelona and Madrid, which were due to begin over the next week. From tomorrow the airline was due to have connected Birmingham with Barcelona each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Flights to Madrid would have taken off each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from next Tuesday (May 25).
An airport spokesman said that the decision was based on the ‘tough economic conditions’ affecting the industry, which have not been made any easier by the recent ash cloud chaos. He said that the airport is talking with a number of airlines to secure services to the two Spanish cities, adding: ‘Madrid, in particular, is an under-served destination with no service south of Liverpool or north of the Watford Gap.'
