Over £90,000 in cash has been seized at Birmingham Airport in the last 2 weeks. The money, which was being taken out of the country in seven different incidents, is believed to have been the proceeds of crime.
The money was taken from 8 men and 1 woman of various nationalities. Adrian Farley, of Revenue and Customs said: ‘Cash is only seized if there are reasonable grounds to suspect it is the proceeds of, or is intended for use in, illegal activities.’ The money will be held for 3 months while investigations are carried out. It will be confiscated and returned to the public purse if proven to be associated with crime.
