Drug smuggler jailed for 6½ years

A 38 year-old painter and decorator from Sparkhill was jailed for 6½ years on Friday for smuggling heroin in his luggage and for concealing cannabis and heroin his boxer shorts when he was stopped at Birmingham Airport.
Zareb Hussain was arrested by officers from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) when he arrived at Birmingham International on a flight from Islamabad on May 21. They conducted a search of his luggage and found two DVD players in his suitcase. They were X-rayed and 4 packages of heroin were identified in the first player, with another 5 packages in the second. A further 3 grams of heroin and a small quantity of cannabis were found concealed in the boxer shorts he was wearing.
Mr Hussain pleaded guilty on Friday when officers provided forensic evidence proving his fingerprints were on the drugs. He was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court for smuggling nearly 1.2 kilos of heroin and being in possession of a further quantity of heroin and cannabis. The drugs were valued at £100,000.
