Flybe has announced an order for up to 140 Embraer E Series aircraft to allow it to expand into Europe. The agreement comprises 35 firm orders of 88-seat Embraer 175 aircraft with a value of $1.3bn (£850m) with options for 65 more and purchase rights for a further 40, making a potential total order worth $5bn. The first aircraft is due to be delivered in September 2011 and the final of the firm orders by March 2017.
Flybe Chief Executive Jim French, said: 'We are securing an aircraft that fits with our aim of furthering our position as the leading regional airline in Europe. The 175 will give us significant added capacity and is particularly suited to the sector lengths prevalent in Europe that we are most interested in exploiting. This is a good time to buy aircraft and fits our long tradition of ground-breaking deals that power the long-term growth of our company.'
