Passengers on Dutch flight not passport checked
21.10.08
Birmingham Airport has confirmed that a mistake was made after a passenger reported that some people flying from Amsterdam did not go through passport control last week. Some of the passengers on a KLM flight were routed into a baggage hall without passing passport control by the airport.
A spokesman for the airport said about 20 people from a European flight were wrongly directed to follow a flight that had arrived from within the British Isles. However, it said the UK Border Agency took ‘immediate action’.
The passenger, Niklas Brannstrom, said up to 20 people were affected on the Friday morning flight, and said the incident was ‘a serious breach of security’. However, the airport's head of corporate affairs, John Morris, said: 'The UK Border Agency took immediate action following the incident to carry out proper checks against passengers, but one of those levels in terms of checking the passports did not occur.’
