Drug smuggler jailed

A mother caught trying to smuggle £18,000 worth of cannabis into the UK from Jamaica was jailed yesterday. A judge heard that Donna Ives, who was travelling with her adult daughter when they were stopped by customs officers at Birmingham Airport, had become involved in a bid smuggle the drugs in order to pay off debts.
At Warwick Crown Court Ms Ives, 46, of Mosshouse Close, Lee Bank, was jailed for 12 months. She pleaded guilty to being involved in illegally importing the cannabis.
