Business as usual at Birmingham Airport next month

Birmingham Airport has reassured passengers that it will be 'business as usual' at the hub next month, in contrast to other UK airports that face strike action. The airport made the statement after what it described as 'confusing national media reports' relating to planned industrial action at BAA's seven UK airports.
Trade union Unite announced yesterday that its members working at airports operated by BAA will be taking industrial action in January, with one 24 hour strike and two 48 hour strikes. The move will cause travel chaos for thousands of passengers, with Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton airports all affected.
However, a spokesperson for Birmingham Airport said that there will be some airports in the UK still operating as normal during the 3 strikes. John Morris, the airport's head of corporate affairs, said: 'If you were to listen to some of the London-centric news reports, you'd be excused for thinking that air travel could be at a standstill across the country. This is not the case.'
'The reporting may have caused distress and confusion to those enlightened people who choose to avoid the hassle of London. Birmingham International will operate normally, as I am sure will our friends at Manchester. Whatever the hassle and confusion in London and Scotland, I expect the two largest airports outside of the Capital will be operating normally.'
