Passengers down 7.2%
24.02.10
Passengers at Birmingham Airport continued to fall in January. 521,566 passengers passed through its two terminals, down 7.2% on last year. The figures were hit by the severe weather during the month, when the airport and others across Europe were forced to close, but details of how this affected the numbers have not been released.
Paul Kehoe, Birmingham Airport’s chief executive, said: ‘As expected, 2010 has begun in much the same way as 2009 ended. However, the year-on-year decrease in passengers is healthier than many other UK airports have reported, and I feel that we are better prepared for the turbulent economic conditions that face us, as opposed to 12 months ago.’
