5 years for teenage cocaine smuggler
21.03.10
A nineteen year old student has been sent to detention for five years after he was caught at Birmingham Airport attempting to smuggle cocaine worth over £100,000 in to the UK. The drugs had been hidden in his suitcase, the Mercury reports.
Andre Harrison, from Gloucester, admitted two charges of drug importation. John Butterfield, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court, stated the defendant was stopped by UK Boarders staff in October after travelling from Brazil via Amsterdam. A suit holder with packs of cocaine with a street value of £119,000 were found sewn into the lining. Trevor Berriman, defending, stated Mr Harrison, who hoped to go on and study electrical engineering at university, had naively allowed himself to be used as a mule by others.
