Ryanair expansion could create 700 jobs

Ryanair could create 700 jobs at Birmingham Airport in the next year by almost doubling passenger numbers from the hub, the Post reports. Sales and marketing manager Laszlo Tamas said the new roles will be created if the airline hits its target of 1.65 million passengers to and from Birmingham Airport next year – an 81% increase on this year.
Ryanair currently employs 900 staff at Birmingham Airport and operates 32 routes after setting up a new base their last year. Mr Tamas told the Post: ‘We delivered 900,000 passengers this year (to March 31) and would like to almost double that next year; we are projecting 1.6 million. We employ one person per 1000 passengers so this would mean an additional 700 jobs in 2009 / 2010.’
‘We would like to increase the frequency on some of our current routes and start to fly to new destinations from Birmingham. We are associating with 250 airports around Europe and we are always looking.’
