20,000 sign petition for return of India flights

Birmingham Airport is urging people to back a campaign to bring back a direct flight link between the West Midlands and India. More than 20,000 people have signed a petition which was delivered this week to the Indian Government to show the strong demand in the Midlands for the return of a direct link. The airport and city council are now calling for as much support as possible for the ‘Fly India’ campaign.
The airport's chief executive, Paul Kehoe, stated it was ‘incredible’ that there are about 350,000 people of Indian origin residing within 1 hour of the airport but there has been no direct flight since October 2008 after Air India moved its Delhi - Amritsar - Birmingham - Toronto service to Heathrow, despite the fact that demand at Birmingham had not been a problem, with load factors often more than 85%.
It is possible to support the campaign by signing a petition and making a remark at flyindia.birminghamairport.co.uk, or becoming a fan of the Fly India facebook web page at facebook.com/flyIndia.
