Lufthansa enjoying a business passenger upsurge
28.10.09
Business trips to China are helping boost passenger numbers on flights from Birmingham Airport in a sign that the recession may have started to bottom out, German airline Lufthansa revealed.
Business travel, especially in the automotive and financial services sectors, is enjoying an upturn following a late summer, early autumn jump in numbers, despite overall figures around 30% down for 2009, Lufthansa reports. And the Far East is proving a popular destination, with demand to China from Birmingham up by about 16% on last year. Lufthansa is picking up nearly 20% of that traffic, travelling via its German hub.
