Two hospitalised after bus incident

Two elderly women were taken to hospital yesterday after they suffered serious facial injuries on their way to catch a flight at Birmingham Airport. The women and their husbands were thrown forward on a bus that braked hard to avoid a collision with a car outside a terminal building.
The women hit their heads on the hand rails as the bus lurched forward. An airport based paramedic was on scene within a minute of the call and was quickly joined by two ambulances.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘The two couples were on the bus that braked hard to avoid a collision with the car. Both vehicles stopped at the scene. Two women hit their heads on the hand rails suffering facial injuries.'
'One, a 65-year-old from Rugeley, suffered a serious injury to her right ear which will require further treatment at hospital. The other, a woman in her 60s from the Birmingham area will need stitches after sustaining a deep laceration to her forehead above her right eye.'
'Their husbands escaped away with only minor bumps and bruising. The two women were taken to Heartlands Hospital. This was clearly a very unfortunate way to start their holiday, but hopefully they will be able to catch a later flight either today or tomorrow.’
