22.11.10
The auction of a carriage from a magnetic shuttle used to transport Birmingham Airport passengers the 600 metres between the terminal and a nearby railway station has raised £25,100 for charity. The airport used Maglev (magnetic levitation) carriages between 1984 and 1995, before they were then replaced with cable cars.
The carriage was sold on Friday for £25,100 on the auction website eBay, where there were 35 bids for it. The money raised will be split equally between Acorns Hospice and the Help the Heroes charity.
