birmingham jewellery quarter
Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter is the largest jewellery making centre in Europe. The English Heritage describe it as 'a particular combination of structures associated with jewellery and metalworking which does not seem to exist anywhere else in the world.'
The area has some fine Victorian factory buildings in Renaissance, Spanish Romanesque or Venetian-Gothic style. It is one of Britain's top destinations for the best deals on gold, diamonds, wristwatches, wedding and engagement rings, gems, and gifts, with over 6,000 retailers plying their trade.
In addition to jewellery and window shopping, attractions within the Jewellery Quarter include The Birmingham Mint and the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter.
The jewellery quarter is 5 minutes from the city centre, with easy access by bus or taxi.
